Kilmallie Shinty Club, Fort William

Kilmallie Shinty Club, deeply rooted in the Lochaber area, has long been a cherished part of the local community. With players hailing mainly from Caol, Banavie, and Corpach, the club’s home ground at the Canal Parks, Caol, Fort William, serves as a hub of camaraderie and competition.

In the past, the club’s changing rooms, housed in a prefabricated metal building owned by the Highland Council, no longer met the needs of the growing team. Determined to create a space of their own, Kilmallie Shinty Club embarked on a fundraising journey that spanned several years.

In 2009, with the necessary funds secured, D Kelly Design was approached to design a new facility that would accommodate home and away changing rooms, a referees’ changing room, toilets, a kitchen, and a committee room. Through collaborative discussions with the club, a design was finalized, and Planning Permission was granted in August 2009.

Construction commenced in January 2011, culminating in the completion of the facility by December 2011. Today, the fully operational facility stands as a testament to the club’s dedication and community spirit.

The facility is not only utilized by all the teams of Kilmallie Shinty Club but also serves as a gathering place for other local shinty teams and welfare football teams, fostering a sense of unity and shared purpose within the community.
